I have a special relationship with Ed Sheeran. He came into my life at a period of time where things were really rough emotionally, recommended by a dear friend. Thinking back, I guess it was some kind of message to me from that same friend. But I didn’t get it at the time, which is sad but I’m still very thankful. In any case, maybe it isn’t that surprising that his music reaches out to me in a way not much else do. It’s somewhat of a memento I’ll always hold dear. And there are few who bands that reach that status. Bon Iver (JV) is another one I can think of, and there are a few more. But they’re precious few.
Like I recently wrote he just released his long anticipated album Multiply, or x in short. And firstly I was like, nooo… this is too much pop. Prefer his older album. But it has really grown on me and I now have many liked tracks, and a few faves. There’s one song in particular that stands out for me, capturing both the really beautiful as well as the really sad. I tend to like artists who feel like they’re one of us. They’re conveying emotions we feel on an everyday basis but they’re clad in lyrics that are straight forward yet so pretty and accompanied by equally straight forward melodies but them too very, very pretty.
Afire Love. It really is a magic track and the piano parts of it are pure love. Really. Music to fall in love to. Music to fall out of love to. Music to laugh to. And music to weep to. Simply, music to live to. Ed, you’ve done it again sir. I salute you <3 And hey, I can tell now... gingers do have souls. Most definitely. Yours must be one of a kind.
Darling, hold me in your arms the way you did last night
And we’ll lie in sight for a little while, he wrote
I could look into your eyes until the sun comes up
And we’re wrapped in light, in life, in love
Put your open lips on mine and slowly let them shut
For they’re designed to be together, oh
With your body next to mine our hearts will beat as one
And we’re set alight, we’re afire in love
